He’d only thought it would be a good gift - Martin saw it sitting in the jeweller’s window, thought it would be more meaningful a gift than the abandoned trinkets and objects Jon was used to, left behind in a hurry by superstitious strangers. Jon deserved something nice, Martin thought. A proper gift, with intent, more than just something on hand.
Martin hadn’t expected Jon to take to it like they did, though.
“I-it’s meant to, er, symbolize, o-or represent those who… don’t,” Martin explains, hoping that Jon won’t mind the bright scarlet blush across his face. “Uh. Asexual… people. They’re not rare, exactly, but, well. I-I saw it, thought you might like it, but, y-y’know, heh, it’s alright if you don’t…”
Jon doesn’t seem to be paying much attention, though - their eyes are wide, staring at the plain black ring placed delicately on their middle finger like it’s a treasure beyond the realm of even kings. It’s almost a bit silly, with them lying suspended upside-down from the branch, the ring the only corporeal thing decorating their translucent form.
Just when Martin was nervous Jon didn’t like it, they chuff out a disbelieving laugh, and then Jon’s face breaks into a smile. Surprised joy and happiness bloom across their visage as if it can’t be contained inside them, finding an outlet anywhere it can, radiant like the sunshine.
And it seems that’s not the only thing blooming - a strange breeze blows past, tickles his face and ruffles his hair, and like nothing Martin’s seen before on this earth, like magic, the tiny white buds poking out from the nearby undergrowth suddenly unfurl and burst into full blossoms, like Jon’s happiness is enough to give life to each and every living thing around them.
With the way Jon looks at him, now, like he’s just hung the sun in the sky for them, Martin understands completely.

In a deep corner of the Black Woods, Martin approaches - he is a chubby, pale man with brown hair and round glasses, wearing a green tunic over a white shirt as well as a pale cloak. Hanging upside-down by their knees on a tree branch is Jon, a glowing semi-translucent person with long, straight hair tied messily into a bun, wearing a tunic and long-sleeved shirt, belt, trousers and boots. Jon looks over to where Martin approaches, somewhat unimpressed, as they flick an amulet dangling from a nearby tree limb back and forth in their boredom. They say, “You don’t have to bring me something every time you return, you know.”
The view pans to Martin facing forward, smiling sheepishly and looking down. He replies, “I know. But maybe I want to.” He takes Jon’s dangling right hand, delicate and gentle, and places a black ace ring on their finger. Jon stares wide-eyed at their hand, blushing, while their heart skips a beat or two. Martin simply says, “See? You’re lovely.”
With that, Jon lights up with joy, smiling wide, the picture of glee. Around them are a before-and-after of the nearby bushes, where, as they smile, white flowers bud and bloom all around from the joy Jon feels. Below Jon is a little scribble of a heart. End description.]

I occasionally see people defending 'jonmartin' as a shipname by saying, "well else we'd get 'jortin', which is terrible," and, true, but that's not the worst it gets
In 'Jortin', we have Martins name length, but Jons name goes first, and contributes 2 letters to Martins 4, a 1/3rd split. Pretty fairly distributed considering their respective name lengths.
So what if we put Martin's name first? Then we'd take Jons name length, and keep the 1/3rd ratio... I give you, the new, optimized Jon/Martin shipname:
